Everton deadline-day signing Ainsley Maitland-Niles believes Everton can deliver on the pitch this season – while revealing the qualities he can offer as the Blues' right-back.

Arriving from Olympique Lyonnais on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee, the 29-year-old became the Club’s seventh acquisition of the summer transfer window, after Merlin Röhl’s loan transfer was made permanent along with the additions of Hayden Hackney, Tyrique George, Christian Nørgaard, Brennan Johnson and the loan return of Jack Grealish.

Excited to make a fast start at his new club, Maitland-Niles – a senior England international – told evertontv: “I’m happy it’s finally done. I’m happy to be here and get cracking. It’s been a long time coming.

“It’s a huge club historically – they’ve won a lot – and I want to be a part of the history and win something.

“I want to get cracking as soon as possible and show my talents on the pitch.

“It’s a new chapter [at Everton] and it can bring great things.

“The squad, the players, the ability we have here, we can – for sure – bring something special.”

On what he can bring to the Toffees’ full-back role, he responded: “Defensive duties first, trying to stop crosses and goals happening.

“I’d say some forward runs, assists, goals and hopefully a lot of energy down that right side.”
