Everton has introduced a new digital service that will allow supporters to access Audio Description Commentary through their own mobile devices when attending matches at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The technology enables blind and partially-sighted supporters to listen to live Audio Description Commentary (ADC) through the flexibility of their own smartphone and headphones, removing the need to collect and return a separate receiver and offering a more seamless and independent matchday experience.

The digital platform – accessed via a web link - will be fully introduced from Thursday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round tie with Newcastle United, following a recent trial.

As well as offering quick and easy access to ADC, the app also offers closed captions, providing an additional way for supporters to follow the action. The closed captions enable fans to view synchronised on-screen text that accompanies the spoken commentary and other key matchday sounds, helping supporters who are deaf or hard of hearing to access important match information and follow the game.

Everton are one of the first clubs to offer the service to supporters, with the new app building on Hill Dickinson Stadium’s existing ADC and British Sign Language provision.

Chris Massam, Accessibility Lead at Everton, said: “We’re really pleased with the successful introduction of our enhanced Audio Description Commentary service.

“Accessibility is about ensuring every supporter can enjoy the matchday experience in a way that works for them, and this new digital platform is an important step forward.

“By allowing supporters to access live Audio Description Commentary through their own smartphones and headphones, alongside the introduction of closed captions, we’re providing greater flexibility, choice and independence.

“This enhancement reflects our ongoing commitment to making matchdays as inclusive and straightforward as possible for our supporters.

“We’re excited to build on this in future as we continue to evolve the experience for all Evertonians and visitors to our stadiums.”

Fans wishing to access the new service should visit the Accessibility Ticket Office on matchday, where members of the Club's accessibility team will help them download the app and get connected.

Supporters will need to bring their own headphones compatible with their mobile device to use the service.
