James Garner earned his first senior international cap as England drew 1-1 with Uruguay in a friendly at Wembley.

Garner was handed a starting role in Thomas Tuchel’s central midfield and impressed throughout, putting a series of dangerous crosses and set pieces into the box which the Three Lions were unable to capitalise on in the early stages.

An experimental England side enjoyed plenty of possession without being able to seriously test Fernando Muslera in goal, but finally took the lead in the 81st minute as Ben White turned home from a deep cross at the back post.

But when White brought down Federico Vinas in the box in additional time, Federico Valverde made no mistake from the spot, powering his penalty past James Trafford to ensure Uruguay took a share of the spoils.

Garner had a 93 per cent passing accuracy for England on the night, making four key passes and putting five crosses into the box.

The 25-year-old also made six defensive contributions and won six ground duels as he staked his claim for a place in Tuchel's 2026 World Cup squad.

Jordan Pickford was an unused substitute as England prepare for their final friendly on Tuesday 31 March (7.45pm kick-off) before that squad is announced.

Tyrique George and Tyler Dibling both featured for England Under-21s as they rescued a late point in a 2027 Under-21 European Championship qualifier against Andorra.

Winger George played the full 90 minutes for Lee Carsley’s side with Dibling coming off the bench in the 71st minute.

After falling behind to a close-range finish from Gerard Garcia, the Young Lions had to wait until additional time for an equaliser, with Rico Lewis converting from the spot after Jobe Bellingham was hacked down in the box.

Dibling came close to a dramatic late winner for the Young Lions, latching onto a cross into the box from George and doing well to get onto the end of it, turning the ball at goal only for Marc de Castro to claw it away from goal.

The Under-21s take on Moldova in their next qualifier on Tuesday night (7pm kick-off).
