My Everton journey began 54 long years ago!

I’m from Melbourne, Australia… and, as a nine-year-old kid, I was given an Everton kit (and t-shirt and scarf) as a gift, when a mate returned from a holiday in England! To be honest, when I was given them, maybe part of that young kid wished it was one of the more popular clubs! As a youngster here in AFL-mad Melbourne (our Aussie version of football) back in those days, I didn't know much – if anything – about Everton.

This was my first introduction to football (soccer, as it's called here), and I went on to play and coach locally for many years. My playing career was cut short in my early-mid 20s after a third knee reconstruction. So, wanting desperately to stay involved in the game I love, I turned to coaching which I enjoyed for many more years.

Ever since receiving those gifts from my friend, I’ve keenly and passionately followed Everton from a very long way away. A huge highlight for me was of course the Timmy Cahill years... it was great to see a fellow Aussie at ‘my’ club! What an absolute legend. My first boyhood hero was Bob Latchford – I was always 'Bob Latchford' while playing with mates in the park!

I’ve never seen the lads – or girls – play live, which has always been a real bucket list dream. After all these years, my wife and I will finally be visiting England in early September this year and we were so hoping to be able to get to a game, but just as it happened we're playing away during the small window we're in Liverpool. Not ideal, but at the very least we plan to visit Goodison Park and Hill Dickinson Stadium.

I love watching the games on TV and, even though I’m not there in person, huge hats off to the incredibly amazing supporters who create such a unique vibe and atmosphere at every game. Even though my Everton journey is literally from the other side of the world, I still very much feel connected to the Toffees. Onwards and upwards to bigger and better in 2026/27!
