Tyler Dibling is determined to keep playing with the belief and attitude that helped him dazzle in his player-of-the-match performance against Wolves on Wednesday night.
The 20-year-old forward was integral to Everton’s 1-0 Carabao Cup third-round victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium, rounding off a fine individual display with an assist – Dibling’s first for Everton – for Charly Alcaraz’s 80th-minute winner.
Dibling, a 2025 summer signing from Southampton, was a constant threat on the right wing throughout the contest, and showed his willingness to work for the team by sprinting back to make a crucial last-ditch tackle on Tawanda Chirewa just past the hour mark with the tie goalless.
Speaking to evertontv at full-time, Dibling felt his performance was more to the standard that made him stand out as such an exciting prospect at Southampton.
And the England Under-21 international revealed the mentality he showed against Wolves that he wants to maintain to keep delivering in an Everton shirt.
“It's a good win,” said Dibling. “We should have put away a few chances and could have scored in the first half but at least we got the win.
“I’m really happy [with my performance]. That’s what I did at Southampton a couple of years ago. And now I finally feel like I’m showing myself here. Today I felt good.
“I just had that confidence on the ball and was – how do I say this without swearing! – not giving a thing about anyone and just believing in myself.
“That's what I've been working on and it's definitely helping me in training every day. I’m just pushing myself harder – but also being easier on myself, if that makes sense. I’m just demanding more from me.”
Settled on Merseyside since his switch from the south coast, Dibling discussed how much he is enjoying playing for David Moyes’ Blues, along with his gratitude for the support he is receiving from Evertonians.
He added: “I've got a lot of mates in the group now and I'm settled. I like coming into training and it's just easier so obviously that shows on the pitch. I had a good pre-season and tonight was good.
“I definitely feel the support from fans, too. I hear them when I'm playing, especially when they're close to me, and it’s good support.”
