Michael Keane will extend his time with Everton into a 10th season after signing a new one-year contract with the Club until the end of June 2027.

The centre-back has made 259 appearances for the Blues to date, having signed from Burnley in July 2017, with 223 of those outings coming in the Premier League – placing him joint-14th on the Club's all-time list.

The 33-year-old defender has also netted an impressive 19 goals for the Toffees, while earning nine of his 12 England caps during his time with Everton.

Speaking after penning his new deal, Keane says he feels like Everton "has become part of me".

"I'm really happy," he told evertontv. "The Club means a lot. It's one of those things that's easy to say, but it has become part of me. It's who I am and it feels like family to me – the people around the Club, the fans, the players, the staff. So it's really special to me and I couldn't really imagine my life without Everton.

"I think it's been a great season for me personally. I’ve played a lot of football – probably more than I expected – and I feel like I've done well and I’ve absolutely loved it. So to get my 10th year here, I think it's a big achievement and one I'm proud of.

"Ten years is a long time. I've seen a lot here and been through a lot and it's good now we're in a much better place than what we have been in the past. I go into my 10th season looking really positive, and thinking what we can achieve and where we can be is really exciting."

Keane has played an important role in what has been a season of progress for Everton under boss David Moyes in 2025/26.

The Blues' No.5 has made 30 appearances in all competitions this campaign, contributing to 11 Premier League clean sheets (fourth highest) to date.

"I think [this season] is up there [on a personal level]," he explained. "I'm really pleased with that – I think more so for myself. I wanted to prove it to myself. Last summer, I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't know where I was going to end up. I'm guessing people were doubting me and sometimes those doubts can creep in, but I've always had that belief in myself, and to prove that again this season, that I am good enough, that I can do it, has been really pleasing.

“I’ve had a couple of good spells and good seasons here. I would have liked to have had a few more, but I think my consistency this year has been really good. I think the manager's been amazing for me. He's put a lot of faith in me and given me that trust, and I like to think I've repaid that. So far, it's gone really well, but we've got five big games to go and a lot to play for, so I need to keep it up."

On the support he's received from Evertonians, Keane continued: "It means everything. To have their support is huge. They’re definitely the most important part of this football club and to have support like that means a lot to me. It definitely gives me a boost and I'm just thankful for it."

Looking to the future, Everton remain firmly in the mix to secure a finish that would earn European football for next term – currently sitting 10th on 47 points, just three points from Brighton & Hove Albion in sixth, with a game in hand.

Keane said: "I think the team has showed all season our ability to bounce back when we've had a bad result. I think we've come together in the toughest moments. I think there's been games this season where we've had six, seven, eight players missing and the lads have done unbelievable and gone away from home to tough places and got results. So we need to do it again.

"We've got five games left and it all to play for. It’s a very exciting end to the season for us. We need to make sure we finish strong and not let anything filter away.

"I think it really is a new chapter for the Club. The first year in the new stadium has been special. We would have liked to have our home form a bit better, albeit we've had some good results there. The move in general has been really positive. I think the fans have probably got used to it more now and the atmosphere is incredible. I've absolutely loved playing there.

"Looking forwards, it's a really exciting club to be at. If we can really push towards the end of the season and get ourselves into Europe, it's going to be an exciting summer.

“With the manager and team we've got, we can attract even more better players. So it's really exciting and I'm really happy to be here."

Everton boss Moyes added: “We're pleased to have extended Michael’s long service at Everton.

"He is an experienced and respected member of the squad, who knows the standards we expect at the Club.

“Michael has been consistent all season and he’ll continue to be a valuable part of our squad going into next season.”
