Everton stars Hayden Hackney and James Garner sampled Everton in the Community’s life-changing work ahead of the charity’s ‘Community Fixture’ this weekend.
The Blues midfield duo dropped in at a Premier League Primary Stars session at Finch Farm, where primary schools from across Merseyside came together to learn more about first-aid training, helping children understand the role they can play in keeping themselves and others safe.
Primary Stars is the Premier League’s primary school education programme. Funded by the Premier League, through the Premier League Foundation, the programme uses the appeal of football to help children to be active and develop essential life skills.
Hackney and Garner, alongside the pupils, were given a tutorial on the recovery position and CPR ahead of the programme’s pledge to deliver ‘Restart A Heart’ training to 720 primary school children from 24 schools next month.
Since 1988, Everton in the Community has been committed to tackling the region’s deepest-rooted social issues, and tomorrow’s fixture at Hill Dickinson Stadium will see the charity represented far and wide with a range of activities playing out before the Blues take on Ipswich Town for a 3pm (BST) kick-off.
An inflatable goal and a darts challenge will be hosted at The Budweiser Fan Plaza, whilst an information hub will also be present, signposting fans to some of the many services available at EitC.
Ahead of the fixture, Early Years and Primary Programmes Manager Olivia Cardwell spoke of how the session served as a perfect opportunity to showcase one of many examples of EitC’s life-changing work in its community.
“Our Primary Education projects are focused on promoting positive messages and equipping the next generation of our community with essential life skills, knowledge and the confidence to inspire positive change around them.
“The session was a fantastic example of how Everton in the Community uses the power of its brand to engage children in learning something that could genuinely make a difference, and a perfect reminder of the impact the charity makes ahead of our community fixture this weekend.”
