Former Everton and England striker Gary Lineker believes Jordan Pickford should be regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Lineker said: “Pickford, who’s not necessarily got a calmness about him. But he’s got a brilliance about him.
“I think whenever we have discussions about the best goalkeepers in world football, he doesn’t crop up – and I think he should.
“He hardly ever makes a mistake these days. He pulls off incredible saves, he really does. I mean that one against your mob Al [Shearer], I mean wow.
“He’s been brilliant in the big games, brilliant for England. Yes, he’s got a big personality and he kind of gets a bit agitated at times. But I played with Pete Shilton for years, no one got more agitated at his defenders than he did. I loved his [Pickford’s] celebration of that save though.”
Liverpool World features quotes from Blues boss David Moyes, who discussed team news in Monday's pre-match press conference ahead of tonight's home clash with Burnley.
“We've got a couple of things I wouldn't reveal at the moment," said Moyes. "Obviously, Charly Alcaraz is out. Charly is not back on the grass. Seamus Coleman picked up a bit of a nick last week in training. He missed out at the weekend. He won’t be available for this game. If there is anyone else, we’ll let you know.”
Elsewhere, the Liverpool ECHO runs quotes on Moyes about the Toffees' home form so far this season.
“I don’t really think there’s a huge expectation on us," he insisted. "I think we’ll just go and do what we’re doing.
“We’ve not won as many games as we’d like at home but if you wanted to reverse it and say the home fixtures had been as good as the away fixtures then we’d be extremely happy for that.
“One way or the other, we’ve got 40 points, whether that be from winning away from home or whether it be winning from home.
“You always want to try and keep your home fans really happy, but if we have to take all the points away from home and don’t do so well at home, I think you only need to look through the history books at teams who have moved to new stadiums, it’s never been that easy, certainly in the first year.”
Finally, the Burnley Express focuses on the appointed referee for tonight's game at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tim Robinson, who has overseen 17 games so far this campaign, dishing out 75 yellow cards and two reds, will be the official in charge.
