James Tarkowski has reflected on the “incredible” moment of striking his 91st-minute stoppage time leveller against Bournemouth on Saturday – and says he always felt Everton were “going to get a chance”.
His late goal at the Vitality Stadium sealed a 1-1 draw for the Toffees, cancelling out Alex Scott’s first-half strike.
“It’s always nice not to lose a game when you’ve been 1-0 down for quite a while,” he told evertontv. “We stuck at it.
“I thought we defended brilliantly in the second half. We stayed strong, put bodies on the line. Jordan made a few big saves in big moments.
“I always felt we were going to get a chance. I was trying to get that message to the lads on a lot of corners they were having, just to say: ‘We’ll punish them. Stick at it, keep defending and we’ll punish them.’
“Thankfully, we did.”
Thanking the travelling Toffees for their superb support, he added: “It’s incredible. To score a goal like that in front of those fans is an amazing feeling.
“I’d like to watch that footage back now and see those celebrations!”
