Everton have completed the signing of England international Ruby Mace from Leicester City on a three-year contract for a Club-record fee.
The 21-year-old midfielder becomes the Blues Women’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window, with new owners The Friedkin Group backing Brian Sorensen’s side ahead of their historic inaugural campaign at Goodison Park.
After making the move to Merseyside, Mace said the opportunity to play at Goodison for an ambitious club were key reasons to her wanting to join Everton.
“It is a great feeling to join Everton,” she told evertontv from Goodison Park. “It is unreal that this is going to be the home of Everton Women. I am so excited to get started.
“I feel so at home here, the girls are lovely. Everyone is just backing everyone and I just can't wait to get started on the pitch.
“I said to my parents when I first heard about Everton, how the owners making Goodison the Women’s new home shows just how much they are backing the team. It means so much to everyone.”
After progressing through the England youth groups alongside new Toffees teammate Katie Robinson, Mace – who will wear number 30 for Everton – made her debut for the Lionesses’ senior team in December 2024, starting in a 1-0 victory over Switzerland.
The defensive midfielder, who can also operate in central defence, is setting her sights on impressing for Everton and returning to Sarina Wiegman’s European champions.
“That is a big, big dream and big aim for me,” added Mace. “To walk out with the three lions on my chest, I was so proud, and I want to do it again.
“For me, it's about working hard and being consistent with Everton. Hopefully, that comes with hard work and determination.
“Brian will be a great manager to work with and learn from. He is honestly a great guy and every conversation I have, I like him more and more. I think what got me most is his passion.
“On the side of the pitch, when you're playing against him, you hear him and that is what you need. You need your manager to back your team and he is definitely that guy.”
Sorensen expressed his excitement at the signing of Mace, while looking forward to Everton’s inaugural season at the Grand Old Lady.
“I am delighted to have signed Ruby,” said the Everton manager. “She is a top talent and was rewarded for her brilliant form at Leicester with a call-up and debut for England.
“Ruby is a very humble character and will be very popular with her new teammates. She has told me how excited she is to play in front of our fans at Goodison Park and make history at our new home.”
