The Liverpool ECHO focuses its coverage on Hill Dickinson Stadium after it was announced Everton’s new dockside home will host five fixtures in the 2028 European Championships.

The world-class venue will lay host to four group-stage fixtures alongside one round-of-16 tie.

The group games will take place on Sunday 11 June (Group D team 3 v Group D team 4); Wednesday 14 June (Group A team 2 v Group A team 4); Saturday 17 June (Group E team 2 v Group E team 4) and Tuesday 20 June (Group C team 2 v Group C team 3). The last-16 fixture will be on Saturday 24 June.

Everton CEO Angus Kinnear described Hill Dickinson Stadium being awarded five matches at the prestigious tournament as “a landmark in the Club’s history”.

“This is a proud moment for Everton and for our new waterfront home,” said Kinnear.

“Our stadium was designed to host the biggest moments in sport, and to see it formally part of the venue schedule for UEFA Euro 2028 is a landmark in the Club’s history.

“The tournament will showcase the best of our city and our new stadium to millions of people around the world. It will also deliver a significant economic boost for Liverpool City Region, bringing new visitors, new spend and new profile to the waterfront and the wider economy.”

The outlet also feature quotes from Issy Hobson after the lifelong Blue signed her first professional contact with the Club last week.

The 18-year-old told Joe Thomas: “I think for the first five years of me playing for Everton, there was no pressure because I was just playing because I loved football. I didn't think about the future or where I was going to end up. I’d have training every single night. I'd play football in school, come home, go play football. I just played it because I loved it. There was no pressure.

“As I made that transition into secondary school it started to become more of a realisation - this is what I want to do for the rest of my life - rather than it just being a hobby, it became: 'I want this as my job forever'.”

Hobson remains the youngest scorer in WSL history, her last-minute equaliser against Arsenal aged 16 years and 180 days old eternally etched in to the history books.

"I remember just sitting in an exam and I was like, I can't write because… what am I doing!? I scored a goal yesterday, I can't be here. I've watched the video about 5,000 times. I did about 400 celebrations in one. I just, I never thought it would come that early.

“I'm not a goalscorer, so milestones for me would have been starting games or just being a good defender. So for me to score a goal, it was like, this isn't right, I shouldn't be doing this, it was just surreal.”
