Everton have signed Norway captain Maren Mjelde to complete their sixth addition of the January transfer window.
Mjelde is a highly-decorated player with a wealth of experience at the top level. The 35-year-old left Chelsea in May 2024 after representing the Londoners for seven seasons, winning six Women's Super League titles and lifting the FA Cup four times.
A versatile player who can operate in central defence and in midfield, Mjelde is “hungry for more" and expressed her excitement at working under Blues head coach Brian Sorensen.
"I am always hungry for more, I love playing football and am happy to continue my journey here at Everton,” Mjelde told evertontv.
"Hopefully I can contribute. If it is with goals or just the player I am, I want to do the best for the team to make Everton better and progress – that is why I am here.
"I have played against Everton a couple of times and have also watched Everton play. We are a ball-possession team which I like to play in. I like to play and win, it is a good mixture of both. I am just really excited to play, work under Brian, see the girls and get to work with them."
Mjedle is Everton’s sixth signing in recent weeks following the arrivals of Kelly Gago, Martina Fernandez, Emma Watson, Hayley Ladd and Louna Ribadeira.
After returning to her native Norway for the start of the season to play for her first professional club Arna-Bjørnar, Bergen-born Mjelde is back in the Women’s Super League, where she tasted her greatest success.
She said: "It is the best league in the world, it is so competitive and is getting better and better. I am really excited to be back in this league and to get going. I am ready.
"I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the Club. I am especially excited to meet the fans. I can’t wait to get going."
On his newest recruit, Everton manager Sorensen said: "Maren is a player who demands respect. She is a leader on and off the field and possesses invaluable experience. She is versatile and adds depth to our backline and midfield.
"Maren knows the Women’s Super League well and knows what it takes to win games in this division. She is a role model who will help the younger players in our squad. We are delighted to have her on board."
