Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside, James Tarkowski looks ahead to a busy schedule following the weekend's narrow defeat to Arsenal.

"It is always disappointing to lose a game, especially when it is decided by a penalty," Tarkowski said.

"It was a mistake by Jake and he has held his hands up to that. I have made plenty of mistakes [in the past].

"We didn't create loads of chances. They have the best defence, but we would have hoped to have had more corners and free-kicks to cause a few more issues.

"Top teams always play through you at some point, but we gave them a bit more space in the second half.

"We just need to pick up as many points as we can now and see where we can finish. We have had a decent start to the season now that we are nearly halfway and there are some games where we should have picked up some more points.

"We are giving ourselves a good chance of a top 10 finish."

The Lancashire Post features quotes from Preston North End assistant manager Stuart McCall regarding the potential recall of Harrison Armstrong to Everton during the January transfer window.

At last week's pre-match press conference, manager David Moyes admitted he was considering bringing back the 18-year-old midfielder.

"I totally understand where David’s coming from," McCall commented. "If you look, he’s got a couple of boys away and Dewsbury-Hall is injured so it maybe possibly makes sense for him to call him back, but hopefully not for too long.

"He can’t go and play for anyone else. I think if you asked Harrison and, to be fair, if you asked David, he would like Harrison staying but I think needs must."

Meanwhile, Football Insider speculates that Everton are "keeping tabs" on Leeds United right-back Jayden Bogle.

The online outlet believes that the Blues are targeting a right-back as a priority in the January transfer window and that the 25-year-old is the right profile of full-back.

Bogle is under contract until the end of June 2028 and has started every Premier League match for Leeds this season.
