Brian Sorensen stated “the future is bright” and hopes his side can follow up a terrific victory against reigning WSL champions Chelsea when reigning European champions Arsenal travel to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon (12pm GMT).

The Toffees ended Chelsea’s 31-game unbeaten streak last time out, Honoka Hayashi’s first-half finish seeing the London outfit taste defeat in the WSL for the first time in 585 days.

The head coach also provided an injury update on his squad, whilst previewing the weekend's clash.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, he said: "Maz [Pacheco] is in from last week, otherwise nothing new.

“I am very happy with where we are in terms of staff. The future is bright - maybe even more than it was in August. I can see a lot of positive things. That will reflect on our performance.

“In the beginning, there was pressure because we really wanted to [win at Goodison Park]. I said to the girls: when we win it because they are doing amazing and when we lose it is my fault because I haven’t set us up right; to take the pressure off of them.”

The Blues’ joy at full-time was clear to see, as players, staff, and travelling fans came together to soak up the celebrations.

Sorensen’s side will now be aspiring to build on the terrific away win, whilst providing the Goodison faithful with more memorable moments at the WSL’s most iconic venue.

“It seems like we have a little bit of consistency,” Sorensen continued. “That paid off and the girls were excellent. They didn’t want to lose that [Chelsea] game, that’s for sure!

“If we can do the same against Arsenal, that puts us in a good position. I’m positive going in to the Arsenal game. We know it is going to be a tough game against a good team.

“The girls are great. There was extra smiles and extra energy because we managed to do something no-one else had done for a while. We crack on and work as hard, as we do every week.”
