Everton Sign Greece International Midfielder

Everton have completed the signing of Greece international midfielder Veatriki Sarri.

The 26-year-old joins the Club following a two-year spell with Brighton & Hove Albion where she made 53 appearances, scoring six goals.

An exciting attacking midfielder, Sarri brings a wealth of experience playing football in England with Leeds United, Fylde, Sheffield United and Birmingham City.

She becomes the fifth summer signing for Brian Sorensen’s Blues, following forward Toni Payne, goalkeeper Ines Pereira – who is currently on a season-long loan with Deportivo de La Coruna – Japan international Honoka Hayashi and winger Melissa Lawley.

Speaking to evertontv, Sarri revealed her pride at joining the Club.

“It’s a pleasure to be an Everton player,” she said. “My first impressions are unbelievable. I’ve met all the girls, the staff and everyone associated with the Club, and I’m really excited to get going.

“I really like Brian [Sorensen’s] philosophy, I like the style of play. Whenever I’ve played against Everton, it’s always been a tough task. To be part of it now is a great honour.”

Sarri becomes the first Greek women’s player to sign for Everton and is the only Greece international to play in the Women’s Super League to date.

She believes the core values of her nation are well matched to the passion of Evertonians, as the midfielder expressed her excitement to play in front of the Club’s fans.

“I cannot wait to meet them all. They are always there supporting the team, it’s something I admire.,” Sarri added.

“Me being Greek, we’re passionate in terms of football and the fans in the way they support the team.

“The Evertonians are very much like that. It’s something I admire.”

On his latest signing, Sorensen told evertonfc.com: “Veatriki is someone who I looked at when I first joined Everton when she was at Birmingham, but she had already signed for Brighton.

“I think she’s quality. We will take her game to the next level with the way we play and the way I intend to use her in our team.

“She’s two-footed, strong, fast, dribbles the ball well and is a great finisher.

“Veatriki will be a key player for us, I have no doubt about that.

“She is the perfect fit for us.”
