James Tarkowski says Everton's players must take a collective responsibility for converting more opportunities into goals.

The Blues fell to a painfully frustrating 3-1 defeat to West Ham United at Goodison Park on Saturday, with Beto's opener cancelled out by three late strikes from the visitors.

Everton, who registered 22 shots on goal against the Hammers and finished the contest with an xG (Expected Goals) of 2.73, squandered multiple chances in both halves, including a first-half penalty, which was saved by goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

"We've had too many of these days here recently," reflected Tarkowski. "I thought we were excellent and created loads of chances but we've got to take them. 

"We've got to take onus as players. The manager sets us up to go and play in a certain way - we do it, we create chances, defend well but we just don't put the ball in the back of the net and it comes back to punish us in the end. 

"We didn't put the game to bed when we had more than enough chances to do so, obviously with the penalty and four or five other great opportunities to score. We should be out of sight but when you don't take you chances, you get punished in this league.

"In general, we just have to score so many more goals with the chances we're creating - it's not just one person missing chances, it's the whole team."

Asked what the answer is to changing fortunes in front of goal, Tarkowski added: "Practice, practice, practice and once two or three come, then it opens up more. It has to come at some point because we can't keep saying we're playing well but not winning football matches."

Tarkowski also agreed with manager Sean Dyche's verdict of the Club's appeal against a 10-point deduction being reduced to six points provides the group with some "clarity" with the final quarter of the season ahead.

"I think clarity is the most important thing for us," he said.

"We have cleared that up, and let's concentrate on the football and try to win some football matches. That should have started today, but it didn’t. Now we move onto the next one."
