Kenza Dali expressed her delight at scoring her first Everton goal on Sunday - before insisting interim manager Chris Roberts deserved the credit for her strike!

Dali netted a cracker in the Blues' 2-0 Vitality Women's FA Cup victory at Charlton Athletic, curling an effort into the far top corner from the left edge of the penalty area to put her team ahead in the fifth-round tie.

The 30-year-old France international was proud to get off the mark for Everton and hopes the cup success can bring renewed confidence into the squad.

“Chris [Roberts] told me before the game that I was going to play on the left and said, “You have to come in and shoot” and that’s what happened, so credit to him!” the grinning goalscorer told evertontv.

“I don’t score a lot of goals but I’m happy that it helped us to build confidence during the game.

“In a cup game when the time goes on and you don’t score you start to doubt so we needed that goal and I’m happy.

“It’s a win. We really needed the win for our confidence.

“We wanted to start on the front foot after the international break. It was important to have a good performance, a professional performance and we did that.”

Since joining Everton in the summer, Dali has helped provide a creative spark for the Toffees in their attacking play.

But she insists goals and assists stats are not her focus, with helping the team win matches her main priority.

“I’m not someone who goes running after statistics,” Dali added. “My job is to have an influence on the game.

“Obviously today, football wants attacking players to have passes, goals.

“Of course, it’s your job but sometimes you can do good play, you can have a really good game and don’t have the statistics because you pass just before the assist.

“This is football. I don’t see football as an individual sport. I see football more in general and a team performance.

“For example, my goal, there is a good pass from Gabby George. Before that there is good play. People who are involved in the goal, don’t get the goal or the credit.

“It’s important for my job as a 10 to have statistics but sometimes you have a really good game and come out of the game with nothing.

“Credit to the staff as well. They did a really good job before this game.

“The game plan was really clear. Everyone knows what to do and that’s important.

“The win was important because some of the games we have played were good and we came out with nothing.

“I hope this win is going to be good for us because we play another game against Aston Villa on Wednesday which is a really important game.”

Sunday’s 2-0 win means Everton are in the hat for the quarter-final draw.

With only two matches between the Toffees and a trip to Wembley, Dali expressed how special a trophy lift would be in her debut season for the Club.

“I love the FA Cup,” she said.

“You have difficult games, on difficult pitches. You play against teams from the second division who want to beat you.

“You need to be ready. The cup shows the character of the team so if you go far in the competition, it means something.

“This is my dream, to win a trophy here in England.

“I really want that and to win the FA Cup would be amazing. I hope we can get that.”
