Steve Stone

Before becoming a coach, Steve Stone enjoyed an impressive playing career at the top level, featuring for Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Leeds United, as well as England.

Stone started out at Forest in 1989 and, after overcoming three broken legs, he managed to established himself as a vital player, helping the club win the First Division title and later playing in the UEFA Cup. Here, Stone also earned a call up to the England squad.

That form earned Stone his maiden international call-up. He made nine senior appearances for England in total and was included in the Three Lions’ squad for Euro 1996.

In 1999, after playing 229 times for Nottingham Forest, Stone then moved to Aston Villa, where he featured in the 2000 FA Cup Final.

Stone later represented Portsmouth and Leeds United before retiring in 2006.

By 2010, he had moved into coaching and worked for Newcastle United from July 2010 to June 2015 in a variety of different roles at youth and first-team level.

In 2018, Stone joined Burnley as the new manager of the Under-23s and in 2021, he stepped up to work alongside Sean Dyche in a first-team coaching role.

There, he worked with Dyche, Ian Woan and Mark Howard, who all, along with Stone, joined Everton in January 2023.
