Versatile Netherlands youth international Nathangelo Markelo joined Everton in June 2017, linking up with David Unsworth’s Under-23s.
Markelo arrived from Dutch second division side FC Volendam and penned a three-year contract to the summer of 2020.
Able to operate at centre-back, right-back, central midfield and as a right wing-back, Markelo has represented his country at Under-17 and Under-18 and Under-19 level.
Markelo enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Blues' Under-23 set-up. Playing predominantly as a right-back, his driving runs forward and accomplished defensive work have been consistently excellent.
Toward the end of the campaign, the Dutchman also shone in central midfield, where his incisive passing and ability to break up play came to the fore.
Markelo cemented a position in the middle of the park during the Blues' double-winning 2018-19 season. He formed an formidable engine-room partnership with Dennis Adeniran, with the pair near ever-presents as the Blues lifted the Premier League 2 title and Premier League Cup.
