Mason Holgate joined Everton on 13 August 2015, moving from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

Holgate, who can play at centre-half or right-back, was handed his professional debut by the Tykes in December 2014 and went on to make 20 appearances in League One that term, as well as a further two in the FA Cup.

The defender's first season on Merseyside saw him put in a number of solid performances for the Club's Under-21s and he was duly called up for the First-Team's pre-season training camp in Austria in the summer of 2016.

After an excellent pre-season, Holgate was rewarded with a senior Everton debut against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of 2016/17.

He enjoyed an impressive term, figuring as the right-sided centre-back in a defensive three or at right wing-back, before playing every match of England Under-21s' European Championship campaign in summer 2017.

Holgate came to the fore in 2017/18, becoming an Everton First-Team regular and producing a string of commanding performances.

His accomplished displays were recognised in December 2017 when he agreed terms on a new four-and-half-year contract with the Club.

Having made 21 first-team appearances – 19 starts – Holgate's season was curtailed when he was forced to undergo ankle surgery in March 2018.

Holgate started the following campaign by featuring in Everton's opening five Premier League matches.

He continued his development with a loan period at Championship side West Bromwich Albion, excelling at right-back and playing 21 games as the Midlanders reached the play-offs, where they lost a semi-final penalty shootout to Aston Villa.

The defender returned to Everton for 2019/20 and emerged as one of his team's key players before signing a new five-year deal in March 2020.

Established as a significant figure in the Club's long-term plans, Holgate finished the season with 32 appearances – 29 starts – in all competitions.

The player's start to 2020/21 was delayed by a complicated toe injury and he had to wait until November for a first appearance, against Manchester United.

In the same month, Holgate captained Everton in a Goodison Park clash with Leeds United.

He made his 100th start for the Club on the season's final-day, at Manchester City, and featured in 31 games across the campaign.

Holgate suffered a false start to his seventh Everton season in 2021/22, beginning a first-day victory over Southampton but confined to the bench for a subsequent period.

The Yorkshire-born Holgate regained favour around the turn of the year and following the appointment of Frank Lampard as manager started 16 of the closing 18 matches.

He chose a crucial game at Leicester City with a fortnight of the season remaining to score his fifth goal for the Club, in a 2-1 win, and served up the assist for Michael Keane to begin Everton's remarkable, survival-sealing fightback against Crystal Palace at Goodison.

Despite starting the opening four games of the 2022/23 campaign, a knee injury saw Holgate mix the next six. After that setback, he mainly operated as a squad player, making four more Premier League appearances. Proving his versatility, he played at both right-back and left-back under Sean Dyche.

Contracted until: June 2025
