Joel Set To Feature
Goalkeeper in line to make first Everton outing against Vienna.
Goalkeeper Joel is in line to make his first appearance for Everton when the Blues tackle Austria Vienna on Sunday.
Roberto Martinez confirmed the goalkeeper has trained all week following his move from Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and should be available to feature against the Austrian champions.
Fans are likely to have to wait a little longer to see defender Antolin Alcaraz however, while forwards Arouna Kone and Gerard Deulofeu are definitely absent.
Tim Howard, John Heitinga, Seamus Coleman, Nikica Jelavic, Ross Barkley, Luke Garbutt and John Stones have all been given extra time off following hectic summer schedules.
And Martinez says he may not have a full squad to choose from until after this month's International Champions Cup in America.
"Joel will be available and he has been on a program to get him available for Sunday," said Martinez in an exclusive interview with evertontv.
"Antolin Alcaraz is working really, really well but you've got to remember we've got certain players who have been involved with their national teams.
"All the players have got their individual programs and I don't think we will see all of the players available until our first game at Goodison, the friendly against Betis."
Opponents Vienna kick off their title defence next weekend and will go into the game having all but completed their pre-season schedule.
Last season's Bundesliga crown was their first since 2006 and Martinez is aware the Blues are up against tough opposition in his first game in charge.
"They're the Austrian champions and they are well-organised," he said. "They play a system that they know really, really well, they had a couple of outstanding performers last season, especially upfront, and it will bring a very important test from a physical point of view."
The game, which kicks off at 4pm UK time, can be seen live on evertontv. To find out more or to purchase the game for just £3.99, click here.
