Bernard insists Everton are eager to demonstrate their ambition by delivering a winning performance against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Sunday.
The skilful winger added he is looking forward to “showing what I can do” in the Blues’ busy festive schedule, which will see Marco Silva’s side play four top-flight matches in just 10 days.
The 26-year-old, who joined Everton in the summer, is convinced the Toffees boast the quality to go toe-to-toe with third-placed Spurs, who come into the game unbeaten in their past five matches.
Everton have consistently taken a fearless approach in their contests with the Premier League’s top sides this season.
Bernard says the Blues will again play with their customary ambition when Tottenham visit L4 – and believes the squad will embrace the “great challenge” posed by Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
“We aim to make the most of the opportunity to show how we can play, and show our strength and the quality,” he said.
“We need to demonstrate we are aiming very high.
“Our performances have been good in our matches with the top sides, though I appreciate that does not mean as much if you do not get the win.
“Tottenham are a good side and will present a great challenge for us. But we have a very strong desire and hope to be back to winning ways on Sunday.”
Bernard admits the hectic spell of fixtures facing Everton is a far cry from what he experienced at his previous club, Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian league would be in its midst of a three-month winter break, allowing the Brazil international to return to his homeland for Christmas.
Everton, meanwhile, face a Boxing Day clash at Burnley just three days after Sunday’s game against Spurs.
A trip to the south coast to take on Brighton & Hove Albion follows for Silva’s side, before Leicester City visit the Grand Old Lady on New Year’s Day.
With 12 points up for grabs, though, Bernard says he is savouring the opportunity to showcase his talent and help the Blues climb the Premier League table.
“In previous years, I have been able to go home and have enjoyment with friends and family,” he explained. “It is summertime in Brazil, it is hot.
“But I chose to come here, to come to Everton and play in the Premier League.
“I see this period as being an opportunity in my career. Game after game, I can show what I can do. It is going to demand some resilience in day-to-day training and then in the sequence of games.
“Having fun with your friends is important and nice but I will be doing what I love, which is just to play football. I am so happy to be here.”
