Lookman Enjoying Link-Up With 'Wonderful' Bernard

Ademola Lookman says he is relishing linking up with “wonderful player” Bernard and is confident the pair can play an important role as Marco Silva further implements his progressive style of play at Everton.

The duo were in dazzling form for the Blues in their 2-0 victory over Bournemouth last time out, providing a potent mixture of speed, trickery and guile down the flanks.

Moreover, they worked tirelessly for the cause, regularly tracking back to thwart opposition attacks.

Lookman and Bernard, who both hit their maiden goals of the season in Everton’s FA Cup third round victory over Lincoln City a fortnight ago, have also displayed their capacity to excel on either wing. England Under-21 international Lookman believes this ability to switch positions offers the team a valuable dimension.

“I don’t mind playing on either side,” he told evertontv.

“We have that relationship where he can play on the right and I can pay on the left as well, even if we start on the opposite sides.

“Wherever we end up, we just play the best we can.

“As everyone knows, Bernard is a wonderful player. And if we can get the ball to each other, we can hurt teams.”

The clash with Bournemouth represented just the sixth Premier League start of Lookman’s career and only his second this season.

The 21-year-old seized his opportunity to impress, with his direct running, neat footwork and incisive passing catching the eye in a man-of-the-match display.

The former Charlton Athletic man embarked on four dribbles during the match – more than any other player on the pitch and a total surpassed by only five individuals across the Premier League weekend.

His assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s stoppage-time strike, meanwhile, was one of 14 accurate passes he made in the opposition half.

Everton boss Silva described Lookman’s performance as “fantastic” and stressed his belief the young winger will continue to “improve more and more”.

Lookman is also convinced there is more to come and set out his resolve to develop his all-round game. He says he is eager to build on his fine display last weekend and help the Blues secure a third straight victory when they take on Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

“I always want more and to be better every single day,” he said.

“That is what I am aiming to do.

“I’m just want to help the team anyway I can, with assists, goals… as long as I can help the team then I am happy.”
