Ashley Young says he is more than happy to spend another year at Everton.

The Club has offered the defender a new one-year deal and the 38-year-old admitted he is closer to staying at Goodison Park than to depart this summer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Young said: "My contract runs out at the end of June, but I've spoken to the manager and we had a quick conversation about staying for another season.

"It's just now down to sorting out the final details to sort out for the next season.

"Yeah, I do [want to stay at Everton].

"I'd love to play as long as possible, whether that's going to be a one-year deal or two-year deal.

"Whatever everyone offered me, I'm always happy to sign a new contract. I enjoyed my time this season, being there with the players and staff, it's fantastic, a massive club and I'd love to go back and play another season there."

The 38-year-old went on to praise manager Sean Dyche for his impact on the Blues squad and the work ethic he instils into players.

"The manager, he's honest, and I think as players that's what you want," Young added.

"You want someone that's going to be honest and tells you how it is, is straight in.

"He wants you to work and as a player that's what you've got to do, you have to work whether it be in training, whether it be in the games.

"As long as you're working, he'll back you non-stop and everybody knows that as a team.

"There's so many teams that play pretty football, we know that at times we have to stay in our shape and defend as a team.

"But we can hurt players, we can hurt teams, we can hurt different squads that we face. The manager, he's been great with me, he's been great with all the players and I think that's why we've done so well this season."

In other news, the Liverpool ECHO has branded Jarrad Branthwaite's omission from the Premier League's Young Player of the Year nominations as "outrageous".

The young defender has excelled in his first full season as an Everton player, and has been rewarded with a place in Gareth Southgate's training squad ahead of this summer's European Championship.

The ECHO's Joe Thomas was left in disbelief that the 21-year-old's brilliant season wasn't recognised with a nomination.

"It was outrageous the youngster who was central to one of the best defences in the league in his breakthrough campaign was not in the running for Young Player of the Year," he wrote.

"Not giving him a chance to compete for the England squad this summer would have been another terrible mistake. There is a chance this tournament is one too soon for him to play a major role in the senior side. But have no doubt that Branthwaite, tracked by European giants, will become one of the most important centre backs of the next generation."
