Branthwaite: Now We Must Build Momentum

Jarrad Branthwaite believes Everton must harbour the winning feeling from Saturday's Premier League success over Burnley and use it as motivation to kick on for the remainder of the campaign.

The Toffees came out on top in a huge game at Goodison Park against the Clarets, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goal just before half-time enough to secure the three points for Sean Dyche's men.

That victory ended a run of 13 Premier League matches without a win for the Blues, and helped maintain a four-point advantage over 18th-placed Luton Town who could have closed the gap on Everton after they beat Bournemouth 2-1.

Reflecting on the success, Branthwaite stated: "It’s a good win, we have gone a long time without a win so to get that winning feeling back in the dressing room is a good feeling. It is something we need to build on. We need to remember how it feels and take it into the next game, and get wins on the board.

"It’s tough when you are going into games and the results aren’t going your way, but as footballers, it is your job to keep going and the luck will change.

"We all knew how big this game was. Each player obviously prepares differently, but I just treated it like another game. Go out there and put in your best performance and hopefully, you get the win."

The game saw Calvert-Lewin net his second goal in as many matches when he charged down an attempted clearance from Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, causing the ball to rebound off Everton’s No.9 and loop into the net.

Branthwaite admitted it's pleasing to see the forward back amongst the goals and considers that winner as evidence that the Blues' luck might be starting to change.

"We got the luck today with the goal and hopefully, that is the start of our luck changing and we can get on a winning run," said the defender.

"A few weeks ago we weren't getting those goals - Dom would have blocked it and it would have gone wide. So I think that’s changing now. Hopefully, he keeps building his confidence and scoring a few more goals. That will help the team out massively.

"For us now, it’s about taking it game by game, week can’t affect what happens on the outside, we can only affect what happens on the pitch. We have to focus on our next game and putting in the best performance to get a win."
