Euro 2024 Joy For Mykolenko

Vitalii Mykolenko's Ukraine have qualified for Euro 2024 after a dramatic comeback victory over Iceland in their playoff final.

Everton full-back Mykolenko played the full 90 minutes for his nation at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, where many refugees settled after war broke out in their homeland in 2022.

Serhiy Rebrov’s side fell behind on the all-important night when Albert Gudmundsson opened the scoring with a stunning strike for the visitors on the half-hour mark.

Roman Yaremchuk saw an equaliser ruled out by VAR on the stroke of half-time but Viktor Tsygankov eventually restored parity 10 minutes into the second period with an impressive solo effort.

The game looked to be heading to extra time before Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk curled home from the edge of the penalty area with six minutes remaining to send Ukraine to the finals.

Elsewhere, Jordan Pickford played the full game for England but Jarrad Branthwaite was made to wait for his senior international debut as the Three Lions drew 2-2 with Belgium at Wembley.

Ivan Toney's penalty between a pair of Youri Tielemans strikes in the first half looked to have handed Belgium their first-ever win on English soil, but Jude Bellingham struck an equaliser with the final kick of the game to earn a draw in a competitive friendly.

Idrissa Gana Gueye played 64 minutes for Senegal in their 1-0 home victory over Benin, with Sadio Mane's spot-kick enough to seal the result.

Seamus Coleman captained the Republic of Ireland but his Player-of-the-Match display couldn't prevent his nation from falling to a 1-0 loss to Switzerland in Dublin, while Nathan Patterson also played the full game but also slipped to a slender home defeat at the hands of Northern Ireland.

Finally, Youssef Chermiti came on as a late substitute for Portugal Under-21s, playing the final 20 minutes in a 5-1 win over Croatia in a UEFA EURO Under-21 qualifier.
