James Garner is being closely monitored by England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of this summer’s EURO 2024 tournament.

The Everton midfielder, who was part of the England Under-21s side that won the European Championships in the summer, is said to be one of three uncapped midfield players in Southgate’s thinking, along with Manchester United teenager Kobbie Mainoo and Fulham's Harrison Reed.

According to a report in the Mail, Kalvin Phillips’ form since joining West Ham on loan in January has been a concern for Southgate and could open the door for Garner to secure their first senior call-ups for next month’s friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Jamie Carragher has spoken glowingly about Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show, labelling the 21-year-old as “special”.

Quickly building a reputation as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe, Branthwaite committed his long-term future to Everton in October by signing a new four-year contract with the Club until the end of June 2027.

He joined the Blues from hometown team Carlisle United in January 2020 and, following loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven, has become a regular starter for Sean Dyche’s Men’s Senior Team this season, producing a string of impressive displays.

“Branthwaite has been outstanding,” said Carragher on the show ahead of Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace. “I think this lad is pretty special and he’s a big part of why in my eyes Everton still have a great chance of staying up, him and his partnership with [James] Tarkowski.”
