Gana's Senegal Continue Perfect AFCON Record

Idrissa Gana Gueye played 72 minutes as Senegal defeated Guinea 2-0 to make it three wins from three group stages and progress to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations as group winners.

Gana made his first start of the tournament having fully recovered from a calf injury, as Abdoulaye Seck headed home a free-kick to set the Lions of Teranga on their way to another victory with the opener just after the hour mark.

Blues midfielder Gana - who was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over Gambia and then came off the bench during the second half of a 3-1 triumph over Cameroon last week - was then withdrawn with 16 minutes remaining, before Illiman Ndiaye sealed victory for Aliou Cissé's side in the final minute of the contest.

It is the first time Senegal, who are the reigning AFCON champions, have ever collected maximum points during the group stages of the tournament.

Senegal's last 16 clash is set to take place on Monday 29 January. Stay tuned on evertonfc.com for more updates.
