Gana Marks Return With Senegal Win

Idrissa Gana Gueye marked his return to competitive action with an assist in Senegal’s 3-1 win over Cameroon.

It was the Everton midfielder’s first outing since December after picking up a knock against Tottenham Hotspur as his nation secured their second win of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Gana was introduced in the 74th minute with Senegal leading thanks to goals from Ismaïla Sarr and Habib Diallo.

Despite the Senegalese controlling much of Friday evening’s encounter, Cameroon pulled a goal back. Jean-Charles Castelletto heading home from Olivier Ntcham delivery on 83 minutes.

It was a frantic finish as both sides squandering opportunities to swing the outcome in their favour.
 
However, Senegal delivered the finishing blow in injury time thanks to Gana’s delivery.
 
The 34-year-old sent the ball across from the right to find Sadio Mane whose effort arrived into the bottom far corner past Manchester United's André Onana.
 
The win sees Senegal maintain their position at top of group C with six points. 
 
Gana's nation will face Guinea next on Tuesday evening (5pm GMT).
