Sara Holmgaard: I’m Stronger Than Ever

Everton’s Sara Holmgaard says she is feeling reenergised with a newfound strength following her return from injury.

The Blues full-back made her first start since May on Sunday after a prolonged period on the sidelines and impressed in her 52-minute outing against Chelsea over the weekend.

The Holmgaard twin admitted it had been a frustrating road to return to action but her absence has fuelled her hunger to take her game to the next level.

“I’m lost for words,” Sara Holmgaard told evertontv. “It’s an unbelievable feeling to be back with the girls and to start my first match [in quite some time]. It’s an amazing feeling.

“Physically, I’ve been ready for months. I’ve just been dealing with a pain problem for the last few months.

“I’m stronger than ever now and hopefully people could see that against Chelsea.

“I’m ready to get more minutes and continue to build back up.”

After a sobering defeat to Manchester United midweek – where the defender made her first appearance of the season – the Toffees delivered a performance full of fight, character and pride against reigning WSL champions Chelsea.

Sara is confident that if the Blues can take those promising elements of Sunday's display, then wins will inevitably follow.

“Our first half [against Chelsea] was really good. We can take a lot of things from the game and factor it into our next matches,” she added.

“We showed what we’re capable of, we just need to score when we get our chances.

“We could have been ahead if we were a bit calmer, but the performance we can be proud of.

“We know Chelsea are a good team, so we take confidence into our next games after the way we performed against them.

“The first half especially, we need to build on from that and then wins will come in the next games, 100-per-cent.”
