Dyche On Key To Everton Building Momentum

Sean Dyche believes his Everton players are starting to combine their talents with a determined work ethic to build a real streak of positive momentum.

The Blues set up a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Fulham on Wednesday night after producing a fine display in their 3-0 win against Burnley.

Goals from James Tarkowski, Amadou Onana and Ashley Young sealed what was a fifth victory from the Toffees' past seven matches.

Reflecting on the win with evertontv, Dyche was keen to commend the hard-working nature of his side's performance which not only produced three goals but also restricted the visitors to only one shot on target.

"I'm very pleased, a lot of [good] work from the players," said Dyche. "I thought there were a couple of outstanding performances work ethic-wise. Dwight McNeil was outstanding. Jack Harrison, Jimmy Garner, everyone, but those three in particular. The work ethic was tremendous.

"That's an important factor, we're beginning to build here. It's not just the talent here, I think there is talent and I have said that all along, but that team ethic, commitment to the cause and commitment to each other. I think it gives you that power for a performance.

"I think in the second half in particular, we mixed the game well, and used all that work ethic but with some quality moments. We saw ourselves through the game with the win and are into the next round."

The victory also saw Everton keep a third clean sheet from their past four matches, and successive wins to nil for the first time since March 2021.

Dyche acknowledged there's an improved desire across the squad to preserve Jordan Pickford's goal and explained why he believes such a collective commitment can prove key across the remainder of the campaign.

"There are habits that the players are instilling, that we as coaches are delivering, but the way the players are delivering it... there's that desire to keep a clean sheet," he added.

"You saw Jimmy Garner sprint to block one when it could have easily been tapped in, or he could have put it in his own net.

"That's a brilliant work ethic from a midfielder to go beyond his centre-halves to do that. The more we do that, the more we get that mentality and the reward for it from teammates, not just the stuff that fans see.

"I see those moments, and their teammates see it.

"There was some really big work done today off the ball by a lot of players and that will serve us well if we keep doing that because we have got talent [across the squad]."
