Onana On Giving Everton Fans What They 'Deserve'

Amadou Onana has opened up on his joy at being able to give Everton fans results they "deserve" like the one on Sunday against West Ham United.

The Blues secured an impressive 1-0 win in east London, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin's superb second-half strike sealing the victory.

That moment of brilliance from Everton's No.9 capped off a fine collective performance from the Toffees who defended robustly, restricting the hosts to just two shots on target en route to ending a run of 14 successive Premier League home games in which their opponents scored at least once.

Onana played an integral role in that, dominating the middle of the pitch and finishing the game having won more duels than any Everton player (12).

At the final whistle, the Belgium international headed straight over to celebrate with the jubilant travelling Toffees and, after a run of four wins from the past six matches, admitted he's enjoying being able to reward Everton fans with positive results.

"[The fans] mean a lot, I enjoy the relationship," Onana told
evertontv . "You can see at the end of the game me going there and celebrating with them. That's what they deserve.

"Last season was very tough for us, but also for them. We are trying to give them back what they have given us every single week."

Onana has been one of the Blues' most consistent players in the campaign so far, highlighted by the fact only James Tarkowski has played more outfield Premier League minutes.

The Belgian admitted he's enjoying his football now but said it's been a collective effort of everyone around the midfielder to provide him with the ideal environment in which to excel.

"Everyone expects me to perform well, that is part of my job and I'm doing my job," he said.

"My teammates are helping me as much as they can as well, making it easy for me to perform like that, so thanks to them I am able to do my thing and shine."

Up next for Everton is a return to Goodison Park on Wednesday night as they welcome Burnley in the Carabao Cup (7.45pm GMT), before returning to the Grand Old Lady three days later for a Premier League contest against Brighton (3pm GMT).

Ahead of a busy week, Onana asserted he and his teammates are looking forward to getting back in front of the Evertonians and building on the good form they've pieced together across the past six weeks.

"It's been several weeks that we have been playing very good football, that's what I think personally," he explained. "We just needed that extra bit in the final third, we had that Sunday. It was a great performance.

"We are on a good streak right now. It's a very nice feeling playing at home, with our fans and supporters, it's a different atmosphere. Goodison is home. We're always pleased to play there."
