My Everton #108: The Cahill Effect

I'm an Evertonian. I was born in New Zealand but I grew up in Australia and, living there, Tim Cahill was the first football player who really caught my eye. Being Australian and of Samoan descent, he was someone who really resonated with me.

He led me to Everton. I would watch him and, like everyone else, I loved his goal celebration of punching the corner flag!

It's more than just Tim Cahill, though. The more I found out about Everton, the more I felt myself being able to relate to this Club. It's a hard-working club, with hard-working and passionate people. That's me.

When I first came over to the UK, Everton was all I knew about football. Living here and seeing more of it, I learned more about the Club's history and rivalries and things like that.

A few of my teammates at Warrington Wolves were big Liverpool fans and they tried to push me towards them but I was like, 'No way, I'm not having that!'... Everton is what I know. I'm a Toffee and I always will be.

It was my first time at Goodison Park last weekend for the Bournemouth game, when we won 3-0. What a day. It was pretty surreal for me, as I've watched so many games from home on the television but it's so impressive being there in person and witnessing it live.

Everyone knows we've had a tough time over the past couple of years but I've been impressed by the boys this season. The performances have been good but in sport, so often it's about that one per cent and being on the right side of fine margins. The little details end up making a big difference and, with three wins from our past four games, let's hope we can build from here.

Goodison Park creates an incredible atmosphere, one I will never forget. Hopefully I can get back there again very soon.
