Everton's newest recruit admitted he was blown away by the support he received from the travelling Toffees on Wednesday night and has vowed to repay their support with "hard work".  

The 6ft 4in striker became the Blues’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window just this week and was included in the matchday squad for Wednesday's trip to Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup.  

He was introduced to the action at half-time with the Blues a goal down and struggling to produce anywhere near their best form at the Eco-Power Stadium.  

The 25-year-old looked sharp from the beginning and grabbed a crucial equalising goal in the 73rd minute, prompting the away fans in the North Stand to chant and sing the forward's name.  

"It's great for me, wow. I just came in, it was my first game and they're already singing 'Beto, Beto, Beto'," said the Portuguese attacker to evertontv.

"This is unbelievable. I just want to promise them I will do whatever it takes to take them higher [in the table]. I can't promise goals, but I can promise effort. That's my number one weapon." 

Beto's strike on Wednesday night made him the first Everton player to score on his debut since Richarlison against Wolves in 2018, and his all-round strong second-half showing saw him awarded the Player Of The Match award by Sky Sports post-game.  

He admitted he was pleased with his impact in the game but said he's eager to keep improving with the Blues in order to prepare for the sterner tests that lie ahead in the Premier League.  

"I'm really happy to score on my debut and help the team win the game," he added. "I am looking forward to playing the next games and playing with my new teammates. To keep winning.  

"I know the Premier League is another level, the best league in the world. I want to get ready for that."
