Loan Watch: Mills Makes Impact In First Start

It was another busy weekend across the English Football League with many of our Everton loanees in action for their temporary clubs.

Here is an overview of how some of our promising young players performed in this week’s Loan Watch.

Stanley Mills - Oxford United

Opponent: Barnsley (A)
Competition: League One
Date: Saturday 19 August
Result: 3-1 win
Overview: An unused substitute in midweek against Derby County, Mills impressed on his first start for Oxford on Saturday afternoon. The 19-year-old played 61 minutes, forcing the Barnsley own goal in the 54th minute. Mills produced a brilliant run down the right wing, bursting past two defenders, before his low cross was deflected into the net.

Lewis Warrington - Plymouth Argyle

Opponent: Southampton (H)
Competition: Championship
Date: Saturday 19 August
Result: 2-1 defeat
Overview: Warrington made his second Plymouth appearance, entering the field in the 80th minute at Home Park against a strong Southampton side. The Pilgrims nearly edged a point, but Che Adams’ 94th-minute goal secured the victory for the visitors.

Reece Welch - Forest Green

Opponent: Newport County (H)
Competition: League Two
Date: Saturday 19 August
Result: 3-0 defeat
Overview: Despite not featuring over the weekend, Welch came on in the 29th minute in midweek against Swindon Town. The 19-year-old centre-back won eight of his 10 duels across the 61 minutes he played in the 2-1 defeat.

A 96th-minute Oldham equaliser denied Chesterfield the victory. The game followed a midweek Man of the Match display for young goalkeeper Tyrer, against Oxford City.
