Everton coach Steve Stone has called for patience with regards to the development of Amadou Onana.

The Belgium international joined the Club last summer and played 35 games across all competitions.

Stone believes the 21-year-old is more than capable of reaching his potential, but feels it is up to his own hard work to get there.

In an interview with the Liverpool ECHO, Stone said: “For somebody like Ama with what he’s got, we’ve got to calm it down because you’ve got to remember he’s only played 30-odd games in terms of starts in the Premier League.

"People are getting ahead of themselves and trying to look for too much from someone who hasn’t had that many Premier League starts yet.

“As coaching staff we’ve looked at his history, where he’s played before, where he’s got to now and he’s developing at the right pace. Probably at another club who wouldn’t need to put him in all the time, he would probably be dipping in and out of the team and learning his trade, watching other players within the squad.

“But we’ve put him in. One, because we believe in him but two, because it’s been a necessity as well.

“How far can he go? That depends on him.

“I’m always a believer that we can only show them so much in terms of getting them to where they need to get to with the experience that we’ve got through coaching, the video and the mentality on the training ground all the stuff that we do. But it always comes down to the player in question in terms of how much he wants to learn, how much he wants to take on board and how much he wants to sacrifice.

“The sacrifice is everything at the end of the day to become a top, top player because those top players don’t do it by halves, they simply don’t, and he’s got to understand that.”

Keeping with the Echo, the local tabloid reports on Sean Dyche's 'Gaffer's Day' where the squad were put through their paces in a gruelling fitness session at Finch Farm.

Following the intense session, Alex Iwobi tweeted: "See Gaffers Day Yeah… Ain’t For The Weak!"

Finally, Preston North End have made Tom Cannon their top transfer target this summer, according to a report from LancsLive.

The news outlet claims there is "quiet confidence" that the Everton Academy graduate would return to Deepdale for a second loan spell.

The 20-year-old scored eight goals for the Championship outfit during his loan spell in the second half of the 2022/23 season.
