Gray Assists In Quarter-Final Win

Demarai Gray recorded an assist to help Jamaica to advance to the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday evening, as they earned a 1-0 victory over Guatemala in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Luton Town’s Amari’i Bell struck the game’s only goal, but it was Gray who created the opportunity.

Early chances from the Everton forward, along with efforts from Michail Antonio, Leon Bailey, and Bobby Decordova-Reid ensured for a strong start by the Reggae Boyz, but it wasn’t until the second half when they made their dominance count.

After 51 minutes, Gray drove towards the Guatemala penalty area, shaping up to unleash a right-footed shot, before playing a disguised pass to take several defenders by surprise.

The ball found Bell, who calmly finished at the near post to put Jamaica into the lead.

Gray performed impressively throughout the game from a wide left position, where he’d often cut inside to support fellow forwards, Antonio and Bailey.

The Everton man produced a well-rounded display, completing 91% of his passes, as well as winning seven ground duels.

A trip to Nevada follows for the Reggae Boyz. They’ll take on eight-time champions Mexico on Thursday (3am BST) in the second semi-final of the competition.

The United States face Panama in the tournament’s other fixture, and the winners from each tie will compete in the final on Monday 17 July at 12.30am (BST).
