Higgins Signs New Everton Contract

Everton Under-21s midfielder Liam Higgins has signed a new one-year contract until the end of June 2024.

The 20-year-old Welshman joined the Club’s Academy aged 15 and has developed into an exciting prospect, with the ability to play as both a winger and at right-back.

Minutes on the pitch across the past two seasons have been limited due to injuries but Higgins made a triumphant return to Paul Tait’s Under-21s in December, grabbing Everton’s equalising goal in the 90th minute to help the young Blues secure a memorable 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town in the Papa John’s Trophy.

He built on that by making a further 12 appearances for the Under-21s, scoring two goals and registering one assist.

“I’m really excited,” said Higgins to evertontv after putting pen to paper on his new deal. “I have had a couple of tough seasons but now I can’t wait to get another chance with this club.

“The medical staff have been unbelievable with me. They have been right there with me the whole way.

“I realised how mentally strong I can be. I did have really tough days in my rehab and my physios were always there with me. It was a tough road but we got through it together.”

Now back and fully fit, Higgins says he wants to hit the ground running in pre-season as he aims to both establish himself as a mainstay in Tait’s side next season, while also looking to impress Men’s Senior Team manager Sean Dyche.

“The Club have offered me a new deal and I am very grateful to be given another chance.

“Obviously I want to be consistently playing 90 minutes with the ‘21s. That’s definitely my priority and then, if I can do that, I would 100-per-cent want to have a shot at the Senior Team.”
