Snoeijs: Brighton Goal My Best In Blue

Katja Snoeijs believes her goal against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday was her best yet in an Everton shirt.

The Blues defeated the Seagulls 2-1 at Walton Hall Park in a dramatic final home game of Brian Sorensen’s debut WSL season.

Dutch forward Snoeijs opened the scoring with a brilliant effort, blasting the ball high into the roof of the net of Megan Walsh's goal from an acute angle.

The 26-year-old has come into her own in recent months, her Brighton strike the eighth goal for the Toffees since arriving from Bordeaux last summer.

“I think it’s my favourite Everton goal so far,” she told evertontv.

“As a striker, when you make a decision to take a shot on goal, you’ve got to put an amount of effort into it.

“It was a tight angle, but it was nice to see it go in.

“Over the last few games, I have been able to get goals in, that gives you confidence.

“In moments like this as a striker you have to be a little bit selfish and try to get a shot away.

“Thankfully the last few efforts have gone in, and I’m really excited for what next season brings.”

Snoeijs’ Brighton strike made her the first Everton player to score in consecutive home games since the 2019/20 season, and also the first player to score against two WSL opponents both home and away in the same campaign since 2014.

Significant achievements for a player who continues to impress and has ultimately repaid in the unwavering support she has received from Evertonians this season.

And, she insists, that support has not gone unnoticed.

“It was really special to see how many fans turned up for our last home game,” Snoeijs continued.

“They create an amazing atmosphere for us as players. They give us extra energy.

“It’s something I hope to see next season as well because they have been incredible.”

With favourable results elsewhere for the Blues, a top-six finish is now confirmed for Everton as they head into the final game of the season.

A trip to Manchester City awaits on Saturday (2.30pm BST) and Snoeijs is relishing the opportunity to face a top opponent in the final outing for the campaign.

“We would love to get a win over one of the top four sides, especially after our recent results against top sides,” she added.

“We were not good enough off the ball. Saturday is about showing how we have learnt from that.

“We need to do what we did on the ball against Brighton and take it into City.

“Create our chances and then be ruthless when we don’t have the ball.

“If we do that then the result can come against City.”
