Snoeijs’ Hunger To Finish Strong

Katja Snoeijs says Everton are committed to finishing their home campaign on a high as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Walton Hall Park on Sunday (1pm kick-off BST).

It proved a difficult night for Brian Sørensen's side in midweek as they were beaten 4-1 by Arsenal.

One positive was that Snoeijs was able to notch her seventh goal of the season, and her fourth in as many games.

The Netherlands international began her recent goalscoring form with a brace against Sunday’s opponent which should enhance her confidence for adding further to her tally in this weekend's contest.

The forward admits that's something that does come into her thinking, however, the primary focus is to see the collective group cut out the mistakes that have seen them heavily punished in recent matches.

“It might be in my mind a little bit (scoring against Brighton recently). Knowing you were able to do it previously is one step in front when you think about it mentally,” she told evertontv.

“I think when you think about us as a team, how we start games on the ball well against Chelsea and Arsenal. It’s then frustrating that a few moments where we’re sloppy on the ball, lose possession and teams can punish us.

“Brighton showed us that they can do that. Teams can punish us so quickly. We need to get rid of that and then it can be a beautiful afternoon for our last home game.

“We want to finish the season well, especially here at Walton Hall Park.”

Snoeijs has been one of the shining lights for Everton in recent weeks and now leads the way as the Club’s top goalscorer in this campaign.

While the result went away from the team against Arsenal, focusing on the positives, Snoeijs says she believes the team can be proud of their second-half performance and for pulling a goal back - especially as they spent much of it with just ten players following Aggie Beever-Jones' red card.

“It was very similar to the game against Brighton. It’s nice to score as a striker but the overall emotion is disappointment with the result,” she explained.

SORENSEN ON ARSENAL DEFEAT

Manager reflects on 4-1 loss to Arsenal in the Women's Super League.

“That’s one positive thing to take as a number nine. It can be hard to stay focused in games like this (when the team are behind) and trying to get a goal.

“From that perspective, it’s a positive we can take that we were able to get a goal. I don’t score a lot of headers, so it was nice to get one in.

“The delivery from Elise [Stenevik] was really good. I was able to get some space and hit the ball well.

“What’s most important though is how we look at this match, analyse and how we were unable to get a result.”
