Goodison To Host Charity World Record Attempt Next Weekend

A nine-year-old charity fundraiser and his friends will aim to set a new world record at Goodison Park next weekend (Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May), with the aim of raising funds for the Oliver King Foundation.

Youngster Isaac will lead a 12-strong group as they attempt to sit on as many of Goodison’s near 40,000 seats as possible in support of the charity, which was set up following the passing of Evertonian Oliver in 2012.

Oliver, who was aged just 12, tragically suffered sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SAD) while taking part in a swimming race.

The charity set up in his honour works to place defibrillators in schools and other organisations across the UK, in addition to providing training in defibrillator awareness and first aid. Its aim is to ensure no other family has to go through the same pain Oliver’s did.

Isaac has previously raised £12,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital by walking 24 miles from his home in St Helens to Old Trafford in 2021, before completing the same route in reverse last year.

However, after a meeting with Oliver’s father Mark, Isaac wanted to find a new challenge to support the Oliver King Foundation and has set his fundraising target for the next 12 months at £100,000.

The money raised from challenges such as next weekend’s will be used to support the installation of ECG testing centres, cardiac rehab and defibrillators across Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

Explaining Isaac’s reasoning for taking on the challenge, his dad Chris said: “Isaac wanted to raise money to buy defibrillators after he saw what happened to Christian Eriksen at the Euros - it really upset him.

“After doing some research into defibrillators and SAD, Isaac learnt about Oliver King and was able to meet Oliver’s dad, Mark.

"After that, Isaac decided that he wanted to raise money for the Oliver King Foundation. Isaac has also since met Christian on a few occasions and has informed him about this effort.

"We’re all really grateful to Everton for the opportunity to do the challenge at Goodison and can't wait to get started!”
