Sorensen: Chelsea Loss Doesn’t Define Us

Nicoline Sorensen believes it is vital for Everton to remember the significant progress they have made this season despite a difficult outing against Chelsea.

The reigning Women’s Super League champions produced a clinical performance on Sunday, beating the Blues 7-0.

It proved a sobering result for an Everton side which has made important strides off and on the park this season as they continue to evolve under manager Brian Sorensen.

While Denmark forward Sorensen admitted how painful defeat was against Chelsea, she stressed the importance of the squad learning from their mistakes and not letting the scoreline cloud a campaign filled with many high moments.

“We’re obviously very disappointed with Sunday. It’s not what we came to London for,” she said.

“Chelsea were ruthless, but I actually thought there were moments in the first half that we dominated. They were still able to score, though, and were so clinical.

“That’s football sometimes. Unfortunately, it goes like that once in a while.

“We need to dig deep. Look at the video footage this week, analyse and find answers on what didn’t go right.

“We must learn from this but then we move on.

“One game doesn’t define our season or our process, but it was a hard result to take.

“We’ll regroup, learn and move on.”

Everton trailed by five goals during the interval in what was an incredibly challenging first half at Kingsmeadow.

While confidence may have plummeted, Sorensen says the team were determined to start afresh and right as many wrongs as possible.

“We tried to make the second half a new start. That’s what we needed to do,” she added.

“We wanted to solve the problems seen in the first half, we needed to try to rectify those mistakes - close down the spaces, deny opportunities to cross and be more ruthless in the box.

“We tried to solve as many problems as we could, but the game was practically over by half-time.”
