Snoeijs And Sorensen Hail Blues' Spirit

Katja Snoeijs and Nicoline Sorensen have applauded their teammates’ character after Everton's come-from-behind victory at Reading.

The Blues found themselves 2-0 down after 17 minutes on Sunday, but goals from Hanna Bennison, Snoeijs and Sorensen completed a thrilling turnaround at the Madejski Stadium.

After being on the receiving end of a 3-2 defeat only a matter of days earlier against Brighton, Dane Sorensen spoke of her delight to come out on top this time around.

“It was a little bit more dramatic than we wanted it to be, but we made it really hard for ourselves going down 2-0,” she told evertontv.

“It was a tough start, especially also thinking of the game midweek [in the back of our minds].

“We’re so happy we got back in it.

“I felt the energy was so much better, we knew we could bounce back.

“We lacked a bit of energy in the game before. Against Reading, we believed.

“It was so important when Benni got a goal during the first half.

“Kat’s penalty made it even and after that it was a case of us going for the win.

“I'm really proud of the girls and the way we responded. It just feels extra good to get the three points.”

Snoeijs’ spot-kick was her third strike for Everton within a week, after netting a brace against Brighton days earlier.

While the satisfaction of scoring was tainted with the taste of defeat, the Dutch forward was pleased she could properly celebrate her effort alongside a well-earned win.

“I think you always take a penalty with the mindset you’re going to score a goal,” Snoeijs said.

“There was no extra stress for me. It was a good moment to help the team get back in the game and then she (Sorensen) finished it off with a brilliant goal. Amazing.

“It’s always nice as a striker to get goals, especially when it comes alongside a win.

“We started the game not good enough again.

“We were frustrated by that and tried to set it right during the first half, but it was difficult.

“Going into half time, we had confidence we could turn around and from the second half we showed it.

“Compared to the game against Brighton, we showed we wanted to win.”

Only four games remain of the Blues’ Women’s Super League season and Sorensen believes Sunday’s win sets the team up for a strong finish.

“Our form has been a little bit down over the past couple of games, but we keep believing. We keep working so hard to get everything right,” she said.

“I’ve said it a million times, but it’s a process.

“We need to accept that there will be ups and downs. Recently we’ve had a down period, but the response against Reading showed what we’re made of.

“I’m so proud of all the girls.

“We’re definitely on the right path and we believe in ourselves.

“We believe in the way we play, now it’s just about how we continue to build.”

Snoeijs added the travelling support have played a significant role in inspiring the side. Crediting their commitment to follow Everton on two long away trips.

“Playing away far away twice within a week is difficult for our supporters,” Snoeijs said.

“They were incredible. The songs they sing when we’re in a difficult moment, it gives you an extra bit of energy.

“They are our 12th player. It’s really nice to have that support.”
