Sean Dyche has been speaking about the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. After a lengthy absence, the Everton striker played 91 minutes against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Quoted by The Athletic, the Everton manager explained the process of Calvert-Lewin’s recovery, and his return to First-Team action.

“When we came in, his (Calvert-Lewin) physical stats were nowhere near where they were in the past,” Dyche explained. “He was on his way back (to full fitness) and then pulled his hamstring. Then he had another niggle that set him back.

“The process previously was, ‘Get him back and put him in the team’. We couldn’t keep doing that, as it hasn’t worked. He’s put a lot of kilometres on the clock, a lot of sprint distance, to reaffirm to him he’s fit.

“We just wanted to make sure he was fully fit, coming in and enjoying his football. We know from the past that when he’s really fit and strong, that’s when he puts in his best performances.”

Looking ahead to Thursday’s encounter with Newcastle United, Dyche gave updates on the availability of Seamus Coleman, Amadou Onana, and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Quoted by the Liverpool World, Dyche said at his post-Palace press conference: “Seamus (Coleman) is making good progress, Doucoure is out of suspension and Amadou (Onana), we'll see how he is over the weekend."

James Tarkowski has called on his teammates to “stand up and be counted” as Everton continue their fight for Premier League points.

Speaking after Saturday’s draw with an in-form Crystal Palace, the Blues defender was adamant that the squad have plenty of desire and commitment.

Quoted by the Liverpool ECHO, Tarkowski said: “There are positives, for sure - there is a point on the board and a clean sheet. But we have got way more to give and when I look in that dressing room, I know it is in there.

“I think we can look at the performance and still be disappointed. We didn’t start fast enough. We have got 3,000 fans who have travelled here, we wanted to start fast and show the commitment and the desire and the teamwork that we have got in that dressing room - it is all there and everyone in there is trying their heart out to stay in this league, so we have just got to go out onto the pitch and show it.

“You have got to stand up and be counted now, every man, not just the lads who are starting but the ones who are coming on to be involved.”
