Iwobi Signs Off With Win While Coleman Battles Mbappe

Everton's Alex Iwobi and Seamus Coleman both played 90 minutes for their countries in Monday night's international action.

Iwobi started in the heart of midfield for Nigeria and helped the Super Eagles to avenge last week's 1-0 defeat to Guinea Bissau by beating the same opponent also by a 1-0 scoreline.

The win helped Iwboi's Nigeria reclaim the top spot in AFCON qualifying Group A. They are now two points clear of Guinea Bissau in second and will return to qualifying action in September when they travel to Sierra Leone looking to secure their place in next year's tournament.

Elsewhere, Coleman captained the Republic of Ireland in their EURO 2024 qualifying opener against France. The Everton right-back faced the formidable Kylian Mbappe on the left of France's attack but produced a quintessential display to help largely keep the PSG attacker quiet.

The Boys In Green went into the break level but were eventually undone five minutes into the second half when Benjamin Pavard intercepted a pass before smashing the game's winning goal in off the bar.

Stephen Kenny's side will aim to bounce back from the 1-0 defeat in June when they take on Greece who currently occupy second place in Ground B.
