What The Paper Say - 27 March

Everton’s Jordan Pickford caught the eye on Sunday, but not for his shot-stopping and instead for his ability on the ball during England’s 2-0 success over Ukraine.

Despite not facing a single shot on target, Sky Sports praised how “neat and tidy” Pickford was in possession and hailed several eye-catching long passes he made in the match. The Telegraph also praised the Three Lions’ No.1 for his great instincts in terms of coming out of his goal to sweep up potentially dangerous balls played in behind the England defence.

Elsewhere, the Premier League’s official website detailed the impressive tactical improvements in Everton since the arrival of Sean Dyche.

They highlight he’s “wasted no time” in transforming Everton into a team in his own mould. The article suggested there’s a clear identity to the Blues’ play now, with an increase in focus on areas such as being more direct, efficient in possession and added danger from dead-ball situations.

Finally, the Daily Record published a story showing Rangers star Alfredo Morelos wearing an Everton shirt while playing in a friendly kickabout back in his native Colombia over the international break.

The forward – who has registered 122 goals and 58 assists in 262 appearances for the Scottish side – has fallen out of favour at Ibrox and could depart this summer when his current contract expires.

While Rangers boss Michael Beale is open to seeing Morelos extend his stay, the footage has fuelled some speculation that a move south of the border could be on the cards.
