Everton's Jordan Pickford helped England to a winning start in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Italy in Naples on Thursday evening.

The Daily Mail hailed the goalkeeper's distribution as "excellent", as goals from Declan Rice and Harry Kane secured a deserved win.

Staying on the topic of stoppers, an interview with Goalkeeping Coach Alan Kelly features in the Liverpool ECHO, detailing the depth of his work carried out at Finch Farm.

“I would set out a scenario, say Mo Salah likes to get on his left, then we re-enact it," said Kelly. "We will have scenarios - the opposition might have inverted wingers - so a right footer like Willian for Fulham will come inside off a full-back.

"We set a train of thought where in your mind you are going, ‘We did this’ so it is like an in-built psychological thing of what to expect. And they all get that, so it doesn’t matter who steps into that role within training. They all get exposed to it.”

When it comes to those sessions, Pickford is said to be the best finisher within the group of goalkeepers but Begovic is known as ‘Backstick Bego’ for his headers at the back post.

Elsewhere, there are previews for Everton Women's historic Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, with the Blues set to host the Reds on Friday evening (7.30pm GMT).

In The Telegraph, Jess Park, who scored in Everton's 3-0 win at Anfield earlier this season, says she hopes to make her Evertonian father proud again this evening after all of his support in helping her become a professional footballer.

Also in the Liverpool ECHO, manager Brian Sorensen calls for a repeat of that "special night" his side enjoyed in the reverse fixture.

Finally, Sport Witness, via ESPN Brasil, claims Everton have joined Newcastle United in the race for Palmeiras youngster Giovani.

The young forward has reportedly attracted offers from the likes of Ajax and Nottingham Forest in the past and it is rumoured it will take an offer of at least €15m to convince the South American side to sell this summer.
