Dyche: Our Relentless Mentality Is Growing

Sean Dyche praised the "relentless" mentality of his Everton side while hailing the growing connection between players and fans following a drama-filled 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Ellis Simms maiden senior goal for the Blues in the 89th minute secured Everton a share of the spoils in the capital on Saturday evening.

Joao Felix had broken the deadlock seven minutes after the half-time interval before Abdoulaye Doucoure continued notched his second away goal in as many games to level proceedings 17 minutes later.

Kai Havertz looked to have landed a decisive blow via the penalty spot with just under a quarter of an hour remaining, until Simms stepped off the bench to earn Everton a hard-fought shared of the spoils.

"We were good in the first half in the sense of the defensive side of the game but I didn't think we operated with the ball very well," Dyche told evertontv afterwards. "I mentioned that at half-time and told the players we've got to find that clarity when the ball turns over in transition.

"It's not just about working hard when we haven't got the ball - what about working hard when you have got the ball... To be available for each other and go and play. I thought that improved in pockets in the second half, despite going behind, it was almost like, 'Let's shrug it off and go again', and I was pleased with that. I think that relentless mentality that I believe in is growing all of the time.

"I was pleased with the set piece, being effective from another set piece, which is important to us [and] some of the free play, balls being whipped into the box and some of the balls going into the box and then culminating in a fine finish from young Ellis, driving, as we know he can... He's got to keep improving on that and play more tough with his body language, but he drives past [the defender], shakes him off and it's a really good finish under the goalkeeper.

"I'm pleased for him and I'm pleased for the group."

HIGHLIGHTS : CHELSEA 2-2 EVERTON

Match highlights from Saturday's Premier League clash at Chelsea.

With an international break now on the horizon, the Toffees now face a 16-day break from action before hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Monday 3 April.

Discussing the impact the late drama in the capital could have on the morale of his side, Dyche added: "I think it reinforces all of the work. You've got to remember I see the work on the training ground, I see the detail and it reinforces all of those good habits and how the team is operating.

"We were fantastically followed again by our fans, I can't thank them enough because they've been brilliant for us so far. They've backed the team and that can only connect more.

"They come down in their numbers and they see a team, players giving everything and now they're finding some quality moments. That's important - the fans' mentality towards the team and the team to them. I think that's growing all of the time."
