Veje Calls For Higher Standards Ahead Of Derby Clash

Katrine Veje has called on her teammates to continue to raise their standards ahead of next week’s Merseyside derby.

The Blues face Liverpool at Goodison Park on Friday 24 March (7.30pm GMT) in what is set to be a historic night for the Club.

However, following a disappointing run of form, Veje believes she and her teammates must dig deep to get back on track.

“We just need to score. Be better on the ball,” she told evertontv.

“When we get up here [in the final third] we lose the ball too easy. It isn’t good enough.

“All of us need to step up.

“We have over a week to work together now [ahead of the derby].

“I just hope everyone is focussed and ready.

“It’s a huge game. We need to be prepared and switched on.”

The Danish defender made her long-awaited return to action on Sunday after what has been a frustrating spell on the sidelines.

In spite of that, Veje looked like a player who had never been away as she delivered a strong injection of pace down the left flank during Sunday’s goalless draw with Leicester City.

While the 31-year-old admitted there is still plenty of work to do to ensure she is delivering the best performance she can, she was relieved to once again be able to contribute on the pitch.

“Obviously, I haven’t played a game for about four months now, so it was lovely to be back,” she added.

“My touch isn’t quite there yet. I have worked a lot on it with [our physio] Yaw, but it can be better.

“I’m just happy to be back on the pitch.”
