Wilkinson Gets His Title Medal

Paul Wilkinson is the latest recipient of a retrospective First Division title medal.

Wilkinson joined Everton from Grimsby Town during the glorious 1984/85 season but having only played five league games after his move he wasn’t entitled to receive a Championship medal.

However, the Football League recently amended the rules and regulations reducing the number of requisite appearances.

Blues Chairman, Bill Kenwright, moved quickly to secure medals for the Everton players who were now due one.

Roger Kenyon received his 1969/70 medal from Joe Royle at the Everton Former Players’ Foundation Christmas lunch, Warren Aspinall got his from his former team-mate Graeme Sharp before the Brighton game in January and now Wilkinson has his.

His 1986/87 title-winning colleague Ian Snodin made the presentation, appropriately, in the 1985 Lounge prior to the memorable 1-0 victory against Arsenal earlier this month.

“It’s a lovely gesture from the Chairman and the club,” said Wilkinson.

“It was an unbelievable squad of players to join back in 1985 and I didn’t expect to play many games when I first arrived. I loved every minute of my time at Everton and this medal is brilliant for me.”
